ASCII Art Generator — Text and Image to ASCII

Type some text or upload an image, and it is drawn with characters.

Your text and files never leave your browser — nothing is sent to a server.

Turn on “Invert brightness” when pasting onto a dark background such as a terminal. The result looks best in a monospace font.

How to use

  1. Choose “From text” and type something to get a banner drawn in characters. Korean, Japanese, Chinese and emoji work too.
  2. Choose “From an image” to convert a photo or drawing into characters based on brightness.
  3. A larger width adds detail, and each character set gives a different feel. “Detailed” measures how much ink each character uses in your device’s font.
  4. Press “Copy” to paste it anywhere, or “Download” to save a .txt file.

FAQ

Why does the art look broken after pasting?

ASCII art only lines up in a monospace font, where every character has the same width. In chat apps or documents, put it in a code block or switch to a monospace font such as Consolas or Menlo.

Why do block characters misalign in some apps?

Some fonts draw ░▒▓█ at a different width than other characters. If lines drift, choose “Simple” or “Detailed”, which use only basic ASCII symbols.

Can the output use non-English characters?

Input can be in any language, but the output uses basic ASCII symbols by default so the width stays even. Pick “Custom” to use any characters you like.
