Text to Binary Converter

Type text to see it in binary, or switch modes to decode 0s and 1s.

Your text and files never leave your browser — nothing is sent to a server.

How to use

  1. Type or paste text. Each character is turned into its UTF-8 bytes, and each byte is written as eight binary digits.
  2. Pick a separator for the 8-bit groups — spaces are easiest to read, “None” gives one long string.
  3. To decode, switch to “Binary → text”. Groups can be separated by spaces, commas or line breaks, or written as one continuous run of 0s and 1s.
  4. Older 7-bit ASCII groups such as 1001000 are also accepted when they are separated.

FAQ

How many bits is one letter?

English letters, digits and basic symbols take one byte (8 bits) in UTF-8. Accented letters usually take 2 bytes, most Asian characters 3 bytes and emoji 4 bytes.

Is this the same as ASCII binary?

For plain English text, yes — UTF-8 matches ASCII for the first 128 characters. For other characters the tool uses UTF-8 bytes, which is how text is stored on the web today.
