How to use

  1. Type a dose in “Value” and choose the units to convert from and to. The page opens on mSv → µSv.
  2. For dose rates such as µSv/h, keep the “per hour” part and convert only the dose: 0.1 µSv/h is 0.0001 mSv/h.
  3. “Show all units” lists the same dose in Sv, rem and every other unit at once.
  4. The page address keeps your value and units, so you can share the link as is.

FAQ

Can I convert gray (Gy) or becquerel (Bq) here?

No. Gray and rad measure absorbed energy, and becquerel measures how active a radioactive source is. Turning them into sieverts needs weighting factors for the radiation type and tissue, so they are left out.

How many mSv is one rem?

One rem is 0.01 Sv, or 10 mSv. The 100 mrem often quoted in US sources equals 1 mSv.

How big is 1 mSv?

The ICRP recommends limiting public exposure from artificial sources to 1 mSv a year, not counting natural and medical radiation. Natural background averages about 2.4 mSv a year worldwide.
