How to use

  1. Type a number in “Value” and choose the units to convert from and to.
  2. kB, MB and GB grow by 1000 at each step; KiB, MiB and GiB grow by 1024. The “GB” shown in Windows Explorer is really GiB.
  3. Internet speeds (Mbps) are counted in bits. Convert Mbit to MB to see how much data arrives each second.
  4. “Show all units” lists the same size in every unit at once.

FAQ

Why does my 1 TB drive show only about 931 GB?

Drive makers count 1 TB as 10¹² bytes. Windows divides by 1024 at each step but still labels the result “GB”, so 10¹² bytes appears as about 931.32 GB — really 931.32 GiB. Nothing is missing.

How many MB are in a GB?

In decimal units 1 GB = 1000 MB; in binary units 1 GiB = 1024 MiB. Apps and operating systems differ, so this tool shows both.

How many MB per second is a 100 Mbps connection?

A byte is 8 bits, so 100 megabits is 12.5 megabytes. Divide Mbps by 8 to get MB/s; real downloads are usually a little slower.
