Text to Decimal Converter

Type text to get its decimal values, or switch modes to turn numbers back into text.

Your text and files never leave your browser — nothing is sent to a server.

How to use

  1. Type or paste text and choose what each number should represent.
  2. “UTF-8 bytes” gives the raw byte values (0–255) a program would store — useful for byte arrays and protocols.
  3. “Unicode code points” gives one number per character, such as 233 for é or 128512 for 😀.
  4. To decode, switch modes and paste numbers separated by spaces, commas or line breaks. Make sure “Values” matches how the numbers were made.

FAQ

Why do bytes and code points give different numbers?

A code point identifies a character; UTF-8 then stores it in 1–4 bytes. “é” is code point 233 but the two bytes 195 169 in UTF-8.

Is the decimal value the same as the HTML &#…; number?

Yes — the code point option gives the same number you would use in an HTML numeric reference such as é.
