Hash Generator (MD5, SHA-256)

Type some text or drop a file — all the hashes are calculated instantly.

Your text and files never leave your browser — nothing is sent to a server.

Hashes
  • MD5—
  • SHA-1—
  • SHA-256—
  • SHA-384—
  • SHA-512—
  • SHA3-256—
  • CRC32—

How to use

  1. Type text into the “Text” tab, or switch to “File” and drop a file in. Text is hashed as UTF-8.
  2. All seven hashes appear on the right. Use the “Copy” button on any row to grab just the value you need.
  3. To check a download, paste the publisher’s checksum into “Compare with”. The matching row gets a ✓.
  4. For API signatures or anything that needs a key, switch on “Use HMAC” and enter the key. CRC32 has no HMAC form, so it stays blank.

FAQ

Are my files uploaded?

No. Files are read in chunks and hashed inside your browser, never sent anywhere. Chunked reading also keeps memory use low for large files.

Can I use MD5 or SHA-256 to store passwords?

It is not recommended. These hashes are fast, which makes brute-force attacks easy. Store passwords with a deliberately slow function such as bcrypt or Argon2.

Why does another site give a different hash for the same text?

Line endings (CRLF vs LF), trailing spaces or a different character encoding all change the hash. This tool hashes exactly what you entered, as UTF-8.
