Add Header and Footer to PDF

Add a PDF, type your header and/or footer, then press “Add header & footer”.

Your text and files never leave your browser — nothing is sent to a server.

{page} becomes the page number and {total} the page count. Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese and Korean go in as real text. Only characters the fonts lack, such as emoji, are drawn with your device’s fonts and added as images.

How to use

  1. Drop a PDF into the box or click to choose one. A preview of the first page appears.
  2. Fill in the header, the footer or both. Writing Page {page} of {total} produces “Page 3 of 12” on each page.
  3. Set alignment, font size, colour and distance from the edge. To skip the cover, type 2- in the pages box.
  4. Press “Add header & footer”, check the preview and download the result.

FAQ

Can I edit the text afterwards?

Latin, Greek, Cyrillic, Chinese, Japanese and Korean text goes in as real text, so it can be selected, searched and edited in a PDF editor. Characters the fonts lack, such as emoji, go in as images, as does the whole line for right-to-left scripts like Arabic, and those parts cannot be edited. Keeping your original and running the tool again is the easiest fix.

Will non-English text display correctly?

Yes. Chinese, Japanese and Korean are written with the Noto Sans fonts, and only the characters you use are embedded, so the PDF looks the same on any device. The font (about 1.5 MB) is downloaded the first time you need it. Other scripts are drawn with your device’s fonts.

Does the file leave my computer?

No. Everything is processed in your browser and the PDF is never uploaded.
