In the hourly row, overtime shows the pay for one overtime hour and total shows your average hourly pay including overtime.
How to use
- Hourly rate = pay ÷ hours in that period. Yearly hours are hours per day × days per week × weeks per year, and monthly pay is yearly pay ÷ monthly payments per year.
- Enter the pay you know and choose whether it is hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or yearly.
- Adjust hours per day and days per week to match your job. The defaults are 40 hours a week (8 hours × 5 days) and 52 weeks a year.
- Add overtime hours per week and a multiplier to include overtime pay in the table. Taxes, deductions and country-specific pay rules are not included.
FAQ
How many hours are in a month?
This calculator spreads the year evenly: with 40 hours a week and 52 weeks, a month is about 173.3 hours (2,080 ÷ 12). Some employers use other conventions, so results can differ slightly.
What does “Monthly payments per year” mean?
It is how many times your yearly salary is split. It is usually 12, but in some countries salaries are paid in 13 or 14 instalments, so you can change it.
Does it include paid time off or unpaid leave?
Lower “Weeks per year” to leave out unpaid weeks. If your holidays are paid, keep 52 weeks so the yearly total still matches your salary.
