Punycode Converter (IDN to xn--)

Paste domains, URLs or email addresses and they are converted line by line.

Your text and files never leave your browser — nothing is sent to a server.

How to use

  1. Paste one domain, URL or email address per line.
  2. Choose “Unicode → Punycode” to get the ASCII form that DNS, SSL certificates and server configs use.
  3. For URLs only the host name changes — the scheme, port, path and query stay as they are. For email addresses only the part after @ changes.
  4. Choose “Punycode → Unicode” to read an xn-- domain in its original script. Labels without xn-- are kept as they are.

FAQ

What is Punycode?

Punycode (RFC 3492) represents Unicode characters using only letters, digits and hyphens. Each label that contains non-ASCII characters is encoded separately and prefixed with xn--, so “bücher” becomes “xn--bcher-kva”.

Why are capital letters turned into lowercase?

Domain names are case-insensitive, and the IDNA standard maps labels to lowercase before encoding. This tool applies lowercase and Unicode NFC normalization; full IDNA mapping rules for rare characters are not applied.

Is the local part of an email address converted?

No. Punycode applies only to domain names, so the part before @ is left untouched.
