How to use

  1. Drag a video into the box or click to choose one. Any MP4, WebM or MOV file your browser can play will work.
  2. Play or scrub through the video and press “Start here” and “End here” at the moments you want. You can also type the times in seconds.
  3. Set the FPS, width and number of colors. Lower values make a smaller file; higher values give smoother motion and better quality.
  4. Press “Make GIF” to capture the clip frame by frame. When it finishes, check the preview and click “Download” to save it.

FAQ

How can I make the GIF smaller?

Keep the clip short, use around 10 FPS and a width of 320–480 px. Dropping to 128 or 64 colors, or switching the palette to “Shared”, also cuts the file size noticeably.

Is my video uploaded anywhere?

No. The video is read and turned into a GIF entirely inside your browser, and the file is never sent to a server.

Why won’t my video open?

Videos using a codec your browser cannot play, such as some HEVC, AVI or WMV files, cannot be converted. Try a different browser or convert the file to MP4 (H.264) or WebM first.

Does the GIF keep the sound?

No. GIF is an image format and cannot hold audio. If you need the sound, extract it with the audio converter instead.
