FAQ
If a price drops 20% and then rises 20%, is it back to where it started?
No. 100 minus 20% is 80, and 80 plus 20% is 96, because the second percentage is taken from a smaller base. To undo a 20% discount, use “Original value”: 80 after a 20% decrease gives 100.
What is the difference between percent and percentage points?
Going from 10% to 15% is a rise of 5 percentage points, but a 50% increase relative to the starting rate. Percentage points compare two rates directly; percent change compares to the starting value.
Why is there no result when the starting value is 0?
Percentage change divides by the starting value, and dividing by zero is undefined, so the card shows “-” instead.
